HORRIBLE Histories celebrates 25 years of foul facts with a visit to Carlisle. Those Terrible Tudors and Awful Egyptians are heading for The Sands Centre from tonight (Thursday) to Sunday (September 22, times vary). Horrible Histories Live on Stage is written by Terry Deary from his bestselling books. Both shows (Terrible Tudors - beware of the ships and Awful Egyptians meet the Pharaohs) feature eye-popping 3D special effects (Bogglevision!) and among an array of 3D illusions the audience will see the Spanish Armada firing cannonballs into the auditorium or the mummy reaching out to grab them!

JIMMY Aldridge and Sid Goldsmith are one of the finest duos to have emerged onto the British folk and acoustic scene in recent years. There unique ability to make old songs seem relevant and new songs sound ancient has brought them widespread critical acclaim. The duo's live performances are a celebration of traditional music but there is also a deep integrity and sincerity that stems from their passion for the social themes within the music, such as the political struggle, resistance and justice as well as the odd love song. They are performing on Saturday (September 21, 7.30pm) at the Roundhouse, Staveley.
