George Fleming with sheepdog Ruff
ON SEEING the photograph of John Hoggarth walking sheep to Ambleside Fair (Gazette, August 29, 'Sheep are taken from Outgate to Ambleside Fair in 1949) I looked out this photo of my late father, George Fleming of Yewdale Bridge, Coniston, walking sheep home from Ambleside Fair in the mid 1940s.
He was recently shown in the Gazette with a ewe which had five lambs (quintuplets) born in 1963. He is seen here walking the sheep along the track/lane leading from Boon Crag to Low Yewdale.
