GUEST speaker at the Kendal Castle WI meeting was Will Clay from Home Instead who gave a fascinating talk on Fraud Protection Safety Online. The company makes people aware of scams and gives help to live independently. Will advised that there are 11,000 of his colleagues working in the community, making people aware of potential scams. Scamming is the most reported crime in Cumbria and Will advised that 53 per cent of over 65s has been targeted. He went on to give a great tip of installing a call blocker on telephones and most major providers can install them. Keeping anti-virus software up-to-date on computers is also very important. Will stressed that any scam attempts should be reported, it can happen to anyone, especially the elderly who are often financially stable, trusting and in ill-health. The talk was very informative. The next WI meeting is on October 14.

The group is holding a free taster session at Beck Community Centre, Eskthwaite Avenue, Kendal, on September 30 (8.10pm). Clogs will be available for both men and women, and musicians will also be welcome to join the band.
