THE mayor of Grange is to be presented with a commemorative book to mark the 30th anniversary of the Cartmel and Grange Group of Amnesty International.
Coun Rob Leach will receive the book, entitled In Small Places Close to Home, which records some of the remarkable people who founded the group or who have been among the 300 members.
The book, which was produced by the group, includes the work of Amnesty youth groups at both Cartmel Priory School and Ulverston Victoria High.
Other events to mark the anniversary of the group, which was founded on November 8, 1977, will take place in Grange starting with a special history exhibition in Grange Library on November 5.
A new tree for the town will also be planted in December by Westmorland and Lonsdale MP Tim Farron.
Since 1977, Grange and Cartmel Group of Amnesty International has held 300 meetings, 300 coffee mornings, raised nearly £60,000 and written thousands of letters to help victims of oppression and injustice across the world.
The book is priced £3 and is available from November 5 in Grange Library or from group secretary Tony Shelton on 015395 38927.
