A BULL had to be shot dead after fleeing from Ulverston Auction Mart and running along a street on Tuesday.
Police were called after the animal had escaped at about 10.45am before being cornered in a playing field, close to a children's nursery on Lund Terrace.
It was then decided that the beast, owned by a man from Wasdale, should be put down and a screen was put up around while a staff member from Duerden's slaughter house shot the animal at about 11.15am.
Motorists were stopped from coming up Lund Terrace and Quebec Street for ten minutes.
