A student from South Lakeland has taken the trip of a lifetime to work on an international project in the run-up to Beijing's Olympic Games.

Ben Ridgway, from Kirkby Lonsdale, flew to the Chinese capital as part of his real estate studies at Northumbria University, in Newcastle.

The 22 year old was selected as part of an elite group of students chosen to share their skills in China as part of an innovative scheme run by real estate advisory firm CB Richard Ellis and the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors.

The ten-week placement in China involved Mr Ridgway working a stone's throw away from the 2008 Olympic village on a project which included a proposed Seven Star Hotel.
