AN ASSOCIATION dedicated to making its neighbourhood a better and safer place has received the High Sheriff Award for community involvement and crime prevention.
Burneside Parish Residents’ Association (BRPA) has worked hard to reunite the community following the devastating floods in 2015.
Spearheaded by its chairperson and resident Gayle Howarth, pictured holding the plaque, the voluntary organisation has successfully helped in a campaign to install a new bridge in the heart of the village after the old one was severely damaged by Storm Desmond.
The village celebrated the opening of the structure with a village party in June.
BRPA has also held a number of events throughout the year including the village’s first Christmas lights ceremony.
The body also hosts a kids club, for free, regular coffee mornings at the church, as well as carrying out frequent litter pick events to help keep the community clean.
The team were awarded the plaque last Thursday at the Cumbria Neighbourhood Watch annual general meeting conference in Carlisle.
Bowness and Windermere Community Care Trust and West Cumbria Rotary also received commendation certificates for their work as well.
