RESIDENTS from a South Lakes village have been getting into the festive spirit after they gathered to celebrate the community’s first Christmas lights ceremony.

Thanks to generous donations from local businesses and residents Burneside was able to hold the village’s first Christmas fair.

On Sunday afternoon residents came together and were treated to mince pies and mulled wine as they watched the Christmas tree suddenly sparkle in colourful lights for the first time.

There was also a number of stalls on the night, as well as some carol-singing to help get everyone in the festive cheer.

Burneside managed to raise more than £20,000 towards the special occasion.

The money raised will also help provide for community events throughout the year such as hosting a children’s outdoor cinema night.
