THE number of incidents Furness Coastguard were called out to fell by 10 per cent in 2019, according to new statistics published by the search and rescue agency.

This adds up to a 30 per cent drop in emergency call-out rates when compared with 2017’s numbers.

Greg Taylor, a Coastguard volunteer, said: “What the data seems to show is good news, since reductions free us up to do more safety awareness and incident prevention work in the community.”

As part of its community work

The Coastguard team visited over 2,000 schoolchildren as part of its community work.

“Along with these initiatives, social media has made a big difference in terms of helping people work with emergency services and use us effectively,” said Mr Taylor.

“We hope readers to continue to consult our web and social media pages for advice.”
