ALMOST half of Cumbrian children are meeting the new recommended guidelines of 60 minutes of physical activity a day.

According to Sport England’s ‘Active Lives Survey for Children and Young People' which covers the year ending July 2019, 24,000 youngsters now meet the Chief Medical Officer’s recommendations.

A total of 36.8 per cent of children and young people do an average of 30 minutes or more a day at school, while 53.8 per cent do so outside school, with 43.4 per cent averaging 60 minutes or more.

Significant inequalities remain in the areas of family affluence, gender and race.
