IN VIEW of the many articles and letters about the flood defences proposed for Kendal, I would be interested to know what precautions are in place to stop water coming up from the river onto New Road.
There is a slipway from New Road down to the river in the middle of what used to be free parking and is now a park. There does not appear to be any sort of defence against flooding fitted to this slipway.
Some years ago, well before Storm Desmond, I stood in New Road and watched the water coming up the slipway and onto the road when the river was running high, but nowhere near the top of the flood defence walls round the then car park.
