What better way to start the month of love than by welcoming three VIPs to the world!

Back in October 2017, we waved goodbye to Snow Leopard Miska, who set off on her travels to Melbourne Zoo.

Miska headed down under to play an important role in the Snow Leopard European Endangered Species Programme after being genetically paired with a male, Kang Ju, from Germany.

Each EEP has a Studbook keeper who is responsible for maintaining the demographic history of species.

That information allows the EEP coordinator to genetically pair males and females in hope to successfully breed; increasing the population.

Here's an update from Oz - Miska has given birth to three beautiful cubs, continuing the work of all animals and people so dedicated to making sure the breeding programme succeeds!

Up next... Is it time to bring something new to Safari Zoo?

Last week every single member of the team came together to discuss the future, from new animals. new menus and even new ticket systems.

There are many factors to be considered in the planning process starting with finance.

We rely heavily on visitor numbers to be able to fund not only animal food, heating but also building materials and extra hands.

That said we are very grateful for our volunteer programme, which has always been a success; with volunteers travelling for miles to help us with animal area housekeeping, gardening, you name it!

In summary, it was a somewhat difficult vote across the board, but we have some exciting new things in store for visitors of 2020, which we know you’re going to love!

If you have any ideas how we can bring new to the zoo or you fancy giving us a hand volunteering; let us know enquiries@cumbriazoo.co.uk
