United Utilities has upgraded the network sewer, connected the new and existing equipment, and installed a security fence. The next stage is to plant some additional trees, hedges and species as part of a landscaping plan.

MAJOR flooding in most parts of the parish is not a particular concern for members of the Preston Richard Emergency Planning Team.

This was discussed at a recent meeting of the group where achievements in 2019 were outlined. The emergency plan has been accepted by South Lakeland District Council and Action for Communities in Cumbria, and the team receives and circulates regular updates on severe weather warnings from The Environment Agency and the Met Office.

The village hall has been nominated as a 'community emergency centre' and a generator, purchased by the team, will ensure electricity to the hall in the event of a lengthy power cut. Most zone coordinators have been trained in the use of a walkie-talkie system and hi-vis jackets have been donated by L and W Wilson.

The school held an evacuation procedure and the problem of an overhanging hedge on the footpath leading to the village hall has been removed.  Two team members accompanied an engineer on an inspection of Killington Lake, which feeds Peasey Beck.  The dams are in good condition.

The next meeting is at Marwood, Gatebeck Road, Endmoor, on March 17 at 5pm. New team members are most welcome.
