THE worst areas for fly-tipping in Barrow have been revealed.

The three ‘most prolific’ areas for fly-tipping in the 2018/2019 period in Barrow were Central ward, Hindpool ward and Risedale ward.

A report by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs said local authorities in England dealt with over one million (1,072,000) fly-tipping incidents, an increase of eight per cent from the 998,000 reported in 2017/18.

Nearly two thirds (62%) of fly-tips involved household waste and total incidents involving this increased by two per cent from 2017/18. In 2018/19, 36,000 or three per cent of total incidents were of ‘tipper lorry load’ size or larger, which is similar to 2017/18. For these large incidents, the cost of clearance to local authorities in England in 2018/19 was £12.9 million.

The data, obtained by a Freedom of Information request, could not be shared on a street by street basis and was instead broken down into wards.
