AN UNINSURED driver hit a pedestrian crossing a busy Barrow road, a court heard.

The victim, a part-time college student, hit the bonnet of Christopher Searle's Subaru Impreza as he turned onto Hindpool Road in the town.

The impact was such that the windscreen was smashed.

She landed on the road and sustained injuries including damaged ligament in her shoulder, bruised ribs, concussion and grazing.

The victim wrote to the court explaining she had to take time off work, and she still gets flashbacks of the car coming towards her.

The incident happened on November 10.

Searle, of Parry Street, Barrow, pleaded guilty by letter to driving without due care and attention and a sentence was handed down to him at North and West Cumbria Magistrates Court in Carlisle.

Searle wrote to the court to admit his guilt and said he knew he could be disqualified.

Magistrates said the offence was aggravated because he was not insured.

Searle was disqualified from the roads for 56 days and court costs totalling £544 was imposed.
