MARTIN Greenland has been appointed Honorary President of the Milnthorpe Art Exhibition.
Martin is a highly respected contemporary artist living in South Lakeland.
In 2003 he was commissioned to produce a painting of the newly built Paternoster Square next to St Paul's Cathedral. This was presented to the Lord Mayor of London and now hangs in the Mansion House. In 2006 Martin won the John Moores Painting Prize. This has previously been awarded to David Hockney, Euan Uglow and Peter Doig.
The aim of having a prominent President is to raise the profile of the Art Exhibition. It takes place this year from Thursday August 6 to Sunday August 9.
A SITE survey is to be carried out for the Parish Council for putting up a closed circuit television camera.
Suitable sites for the three existing Speed Indicator Devices have been found and it is hoped to put up another one. The market cross is to be cleaned by the end of March.
150 NEW parking discs have been distributed to 15 businesses.
FIVE serious crimes were reported in the area during February.
The village "Welcome" sign on Beetham Road is to be made more visible.
