YEAR Three at the primary school enjoyed working on their map skills while doing nature orienteering at Strickley Farm.

The children found badger and deer prints and even some frogspawn on the path which a bird may have dropped.

The scramble up to the badger sett was worth the climb as the amount of stone the badgers had shifted to make their home was very impressive.

They loved looking for the clues and finding their way on the map.

All three groups successfully completed the course and made it back to the trailer for a hot chocolate and biscuit reward. Many thanks to Michelle and Strickley Farm for such a lovely morning.

Many congratulations to all the children who attended the KS2 Rotary Swimming competition at Kendal Leisure Centre.

The two teams swam a combined total of one hundred and sixty-two lengths. Not only did they swim with such confidence and style, but they seemed to be the groups that had the most fun, with lots of chatting and laughter as they waited for their turn.

The sponsorship money will go to Animal Rescue Cumbria which is the chosen school charity.

The children had a “green” day at school to raise money for the NSPCC. It is the NSPCC’s ambition to help every child in the UK to stay safe, so they all took part in the ‘Speak out, stay safe” programme.

Children at the pre-school and playgroup enjoyed time out in the sunshine to see how the garden was coming along. There were real signs of spring, with daffodils, frogspawn, and even real shadows!

WI MEMBERS enjoyed an illustrated talk about Bay Search and Rescue.

The Public Hall's new projector and screen were brought into use for the first time.

The next meeting is due to take place on Tuesday April 14, depending on coronavirus restrictions, when members will be entertained by Joan Bentley with flower arrangements.

As usual information can be obtained from Ruth, phone 722896, or Chris 725880.

THE annual Parochial Church Meetings are due to take place at 7.00pm on Monday April 20 at Old Hutton Church and at 7.30pm on Wednesday April 22 at New Hutton Institute.

Anyone who wants to vote at these meetings must be on the electoral roll for the relevant church. Electoral roll forms are available in the churches or electronically via ang.whitt68@googlemail.com. The forms must be returned by Saturday March 29. Both churches have vacancies for churchwardens, and anyone who considers this might be a role they could take on should contact Rev Angela Whittaker by email or on 015395 60355.

THE VILLAGES’ litter picks have been cancelled, as has Old Hutton’s annual village quiz.
