One million pounds has been made available for groups across the country to give more support to young people during the coronavirus outbreak.

Persimmon Homes has launched the Building Futures scheme which will give up to £100,000 to grassroots groups that work with young people.

These could be education and arts groups or sports and health groups.

John Roocroft, managing director for Persimmon Homes Lancashire, said: “As the country really starts to feel the effects of the Covid-19 outbreak, we believe that now more than ever we need to look after the health and wellbeing of the youngest and oldest members of our communities.

“Persimmon has already pledged to re-direct its Community Champions funding initiative towards groups that work with and support the over-70s for the duration of the pandemic crisis. Now, with the launch of Building Futures, we aim to help the younger members of our society.

“We will make donations from £1,000 to £100,000 to grassroots sports groups, charities dealing with physical and mental health issues, as well as community arts and education projects.”

Last year, Carlisle Mencap and the Outward Bound Trust were two of the charities supported through this scheme.

Groups will receive donations from £1,000 to £100,000.

The charitable scheme is run in partnership with Team GB.

Applications for the scheme can be submitted online.
