I AM sure by now we are all aware the impact that Coronvirus (COVID-19) is having on many of us, our communities and society at large.

These are worrying and difficult times which will impact each and every one of us in a variety of different ways, none more so than those who live alone and are having to self-isolate.

We also hear daily of all the support and help that is being offered in and around local communities, how people around the country signed up in their droves to support the government's plea for volunteers and how older people across the district are being supported by offers of shopping and prescription deliveries.

This community spirit is very welcoming. However, without wishing to be the bearer of doom and gloom, one message is very apparent - we are in this for the long haul.

Over time this is likely to impact the current offers of support as personal circumstances change and availability for willing volunteers and services diminish; while the need for help and support is likely to increase.

At the moment there is very little else reported in the media other than COVID-19. But for all of us life goes on, and that includes problems that are completely unrelated to the pandemic.

During this time one of the most important things to remember is that if we need support, we must ask for it.

It is vitally important that when we seek support it is from a trusted source, whether that is a close friend, a volunteer whom we know, or a local organisation that we can trust.
