A SAFETY and anti-abuse hub for women in south Cumbria has issued a message in support of victims of abuse.
The welfare centre, based in central Barrow, stressed it is 'still here to support women who are victims of abuse - we believe you'.
The Women's Community Matters centre says it remains open despite the restrictions made necessary by coronavirus.
Domestic abuse rates have reportedly soared across the country since the lockdown came into effect.
Rebecca Robson, senior officer said as part of a statement: Despite the obvious restrictions due to coronavirus our message is simple, we are still here to help, and we believe you.”
“We know there has been a rise in reports of abuse nationally and we would urge any woman who has been, or still is, a victim of any kind of abuse or exploitation to contact us.”
The centre added: "Although the centre is not able to receive visitors at present, they are still contactable by telephone and email for any women who have been, or still are, victims of emotional, physical or sexual abuse of any kind.
"Please come forward – we believe you and we’re here to help."
