LAST Saturday was Armed Forces Day, but unfortunately celebrations had to be cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

However, this has not stopped the nation from recognising and celebrating the work of the UK Armed Forces and wider Armed Forces community throughout the week. It has given us all opportunity to say thank you to all those who have in the past protected our nation and those who still continue to do so with honour, courage and commitment.

For many, the transition period into ‘civvy life’ can be straightforward. However, for others following the unique demands of service life, leaving the Armed Forces can be distressing - sometimes added to this is the additional stress of coping with an illness or injury, making the challenge seem insurmountable.

Age UK South Lakeland are working in partnership with SSAFA. Together we offer support to veterans across the district. Our trained case officers and volunteers will work with each person to find out exactly what they need. Once we’ve assessed and agreed what support in required, we’ll help the individual or family access it. Whether it’s financial, practical or emotional, we provide the right kind of support, ensuring independence and dignity is protected at all times.

We are highly experienced in providing meaningful life-improving support to older people - including veterans, who are vulnerable or experiencing a range of life-affecting issues such as: isolation and loneliness, unemployment, financial difficulty, health and mental health problems.

We are proud to support any veteran who needs our help and we will ensure that no one’s service is ever forgotten. If you are a veteran or know of a veteran who needs our support, please call us on: 303 300 30003.
