Over 792 burglaries have been reported in Burnley since June 2019- and some streets are more targeted than others.

Burglary is actually the fourth most reported crime in the town, after anti-social behaviour (6460), criminal damage and arson (1329) and other types of theft (994).

10 streets with the most reported burglaries

According to police data, the street with the most reported burglaries between June 2019-June 2020 was Manchester Road with a whopping 11 reports.

Croft Street and Burns Street are also burglary hotspots, with 8 reported incidents on each street.

A fair few incidents were also reported on Wycoller Avenue (7), Croft Street (8) and Burns Street (8)

In June 2020, the street with the most burglaries was Hall Street with four reported in just one month.

In June of the previous year, the street with the most reported burglaries was Lune Street (3).

Burglary trends

As you can see from the graph, burglaries in Burnley peaked around Christmas time last year, with the highest numbers recorded in November (76).

The lowest recorded month was in August 2019, when just 48 burglaries were recorded.

You would expect burglary rates to be extremely low at the start of coronavirus lockdown in April, as more people are forced to stay in their homes.

However, this isn’t the case in Burnley as a total number of 177 burglary incidents were reported between April and June. 

Are the criminals ever caught?

According to the police crime data, only 23 out of 792 reported burglary cases are awaiting a court outcome.

A further 246 are under investigation.

In 53 cases, police have been unable to prosecute the suspect and in 14 cases no suspect has been identified.
