A popular brass band from Leeds went down a storm in Levens Village recently - after making a surprise appearance as part of a crowdfunding project.

Hyde Park Brass brought joy to the residents in the area as they played multiple hit songs outside the Levens Village Institute.

They had come to the area as part of their 100 street gigs they are doing across the country to raise £7,500, with each gig requiring a £75 donation.

Charlie Knighton, band leader for the ten-piece act, said: “This crowdfunded tour has seen us go up and down the country as we have tried to lift the spirits of all those going through a terrible time at the moment.

“It is brilliant being able to come right to the doorstep of all these people.

“We have reconstructed the supply chain of music so people can come out and experience it in a different way than before.”

From Take That to Duran Duran, the band, which was formed when its members met at Leeds University in 2015, played a number of classic hits.

All they asked for was a beer money donation at the end which the Levens residents were more than happy to supply.

Local resident Sue, who organised the Crowdfunder, said: “I saw this on social media and thought it was a great idea to do it and get them down to Levens.

“They want to make people smile and they certainly did that.”

The band missed out performing at multiple festivals this summer, however through their unique tour they have still managed to entertain supporters.
