A BLUEPRINT to shape the future of a South Lakeland village is to be created.

South Lakeland District Council has given the green light for a Neighbourhood Plan to be set up in Burneside, near Kendal.

The newly elevated status will allow the community to be allocated a greater share of resources from the council.

A spokesman for South Lakeland District Council explained how it will work. They said: “A neighbourhood plan can establish general planning policies for the development and use of land in a neighbourhood, such as the location and appearance of new buildings and may identify sites for new development or protection of green spaces.”

Parishes with a neighbourhood plan will also receive 25 per cent of any Community Infrastructure Levy. A CIL is paid by developers when submitting plans for new homes in the area and can be used to fund road and school improvements to cope with more residents.

This is compared to the 15 per cent areas without a neighbourhood plan get.
