THE plaque at the entrance to Abbot Hall park, attached to the wall on the side of a Chinese Restaurant.
Prior to Dowkers Lane opening, the plaque was sited facing Gillinggate, built into a wall at the park entrance. It commemorates the contribution in 1897 to obtain the park, by the Kendal Savings Bank, established in 1788. The bank, based in Stricklandgate House, was built in 1776 by Joseph Maude.
