Cumbria County Council has outlined the impact the new national lockdown has had on its services.

The county council provides a wide range of services throughout the county, from running care homes to recycling centres.

The current situation regarding a number of its services are as follows:

Care Homes

A spokesman for the county council explained that "as per the updated national guidance, essential visits to loved ones in care homes in Cumbria will be allowed during this lockdown".

Any essential visits to care homes have to be fully Covid-secure, and meet all infection prevention and control requirements.

For any visit to take place, care homes must not be experiencing a Covid-19 outbreak.

"It is for individual care homes to establish safe visiting and put in appropriate arrangements," the spokesman added.

"Cumbria County Council’s in-house provider Cumbria Care have robust systems in place and therefore will support visits from individuals - in line with the national social distancing and safety guidance."

Libraries and Archives

Following a review of the latest guidance from Government, Cumbria Library Service will continue to provide a "selection of essential services during the lockdown".

"Select and collect" services will still be available, as well as online and home delivery services.

"For digital access to services we are also asking customers to book in advance for access to computers to ensure the best and safest service possible," the council has said.

"Book browsing will not be available during lockdown."

Registration Services

Wedding and civil partnership ceremonies will not be able to go ahead during lockdown.

However, all other registration services, including birth and death registrations, will continue.

Household Waste Recycling Centres

The 14 household waste recycling centres operated by Cumbria County Council are currently open, in line with the latest Government regulations.

The council has said it has has "no intention of closing the sites" during lockdown.

A full service is being operated, though there are extra measures in place to ensure the safety of both site users and staff.

A booking system is in place for the Carlisle Bousteads Grassing site and the Grange-over-Sands centre.
