As temperatures plummet gritters were deployed to get ahead of the cold temperatures predicated last night.
Cumbria county council deployed a dozen gritters across the road network.
A spokesman for Highways said: " Roads surfaces are mostly dry, but the odd patch of hoar frost cannot be completely ruled out.
"Cloudier skies pushing in from the west through the course of the night, albeit confidence remains low in terms of the timings. Cloudy tomorrow morning with rain pushing in from the west, heavy over the south-facing hills with a flood risk."
