HUNDREDS of letters have been sent to Westmorland and Lonsdale MP Tim Farron in support of a joint campaign being run with The Westmorland Gazette to save South Lakeland's threatened rural post offices.

More than 40 post offices in the constituency are on a high risk of closure' list and Mr Farron has so far received 250 letters of opposition to the move which he will pass on to Post Office Ltd in January.

He said: "I would urge people to continue writing in support of their local post offices. It is important to show in the strongest way possible how vital they are to our rural communities."

Meanwhile, Esthwaite Green Link group is holding a coffee morning in Hawkshead today (Friday) to rally support for the anti-closure campaign.
