Apprentices said they "made the right choice" joining a world-class lighting manufacturer to kickstart their career.

Oxley Group is a world-class provider of high-specification LED lighting, night vision solutions and electronic components for defence and aerospace applications.

Launched in south Cumbria 80 years ago, the company offers an end-to-end service from Ulverston including comprehensive design, manufacturing, assembly and test facilities.

The delivery of a full design and manufacturing solution in-house at Ulverston enables Oxley to offer a large range of opportunities for those looking for an apprenticeship.

Vacancies vary from year to year but typically include engineering, process control, project management and business administration apprenticeships.

As such, apprentices will have the opportunity to work on some of the world’s leading defence and aerospace programmes.

The group offers numerous training and development opportunities along with essential benefits like a pension scheme and a generous hourly holiday package.

They also offer additional benefits including a bonus scheme, private healthcare, life insurance and early finishing on Fridays.

Lauren Wright reflected on her experience as an Oxley apprentice in Project Management.

She said: “I have enjoyed the broad variety of training I have received, I have not only improved my knowledge of project management, but also developed in skills such as maths, literacy, business and communications.

“No two days are the same, and I’m enjoying being pushed out of my comfort zone.

“I need to be able to manage anything that may happen throughout the day.

“That kind of responsibility has really boosted my confidence in a way that I wouldn’t have found until much later, had I chosen not to pursue an apprenticeship at Oxley.

“I have a lot of support here and many great influences.

“I definitely made the right choice.”

Oxley has won an award for the ‘inspiring’ culture which is created from empowering the team to take ownership and have the freedom to participate in growing and improving the business.
