THE owner of a pottery in Bentham has recently published a book about the man who provided him with the tricks of the trade.
Lee Cartlidge’s The Last Potter of Black Burton: Richard Bateson and the potteries of Burton-in-Lonsdale was released in December last year.
The book tells the story of Richard Bateson, the last potter of Black Burton, a renowned thrower and teacher.
"When I was nine-years-old this old guy comes into the pottery and asks my mother if he could throw a pot on the wheel," said Mr Cartledge.
"And he threw it and it became quickly apparent that this man was a genius.
"He came into Bentham Pottery for six months after and basically taught my mother most of the skills she then passed on to me."
The book is available to buy from Bentham Pottery or from Amazon.
