THE fire service has issued advice on how people can prevent blazes in their kitchens.

Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service has published its top tips on how to remain safe and fire free while cooking or baking.

A spokesman said: “Remember: always keep an eye on your cooking.

“Don’t cook when you’re tired or after taking medication that makes you drowsy.

“Keep tea towels, oven gloves and other flammable items well away from the flames."

Its final tip? “Cooking and alcohol don’t mix.”
