THE redevelopment of a former garage site in Kendal into affordable homes has been completed by South Lakes Housing.

The transformation of Parkside Road has created five much needed new homes for affordable rent and for shared ownership, for the benefit of local people.

This innovative project breathes new life into a central piece of land in Kendal that now showcases five homes. The outcome demonstrates SLH’s commitment to investing in communities across South Lakeland and beyond.

The houses have been constructed using improved fabric insulation and low carbon technology (PV Panels and Battery Storage). They will all perform to high environmental standards having achieved an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating A, according to South Lakes Housing.

This will reduce household bills for residents to help achieve affordable warmth whilst also helping to reduce SLH’s Environmental Impact.

Cath Purdy, Chief Executive of SLH said: “We are thrilled with the outcome of this development. We have replaced unattractive garages with homes for people that really need them.

"This development is helping to combat the housing crisis locally and it will make a positive difference to local people who have been struggling to own or rent their own home.

"We are looking forward to welcoming residents into their new homes over the next few weeks.”

The project has been funded by SLH and Homes England with funding also coming from SLDC to support site assembly to facilitate this new development.

SLH has worked in partnership to deliver these new homes with Elliott Associates, Tyson Construction, IDPartnerships, Wardhadaway and R G Parkins.

Following this, South Lakes Housing are delighted that plans to build 28 new homes in the market town of Burton-in-Kendal have been approved by planners at South Lakeland District Council.

All of the homes are 100 per cent affordable and there will be a mix of 19 for affordable rent and nine for shared ownership.
