A CANCER charity which helps support people affected by lymphoma, is inviting anyone in the region affected by Hodgkin or non-Hodgkin lymphoma or chronic lymphocytic leukaemia (CLL) to join their online support meeting.

Founded by patients in 1986, Lymphoma Action is the UK’s only charity dedicated to lymphoma- the UK’s fifth most common cancer with more than 19,500 new cases diagnosed each year.

The group has been welcomed by those who have their own experiences of a blood cancer diagnosis.

Alison Mason from Kendal was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma in March 2020, and joined Lymphoma Action’s Cumbria and North Lancashire online support meeting to connect with others with similar experiences in her local area.

“It’s really good to talk to others who have been affected by lymphoma and follow their journey,” she said.

“Sometimes we are joined by guest speakers too, which is always interesting and informative.”

Alison is also a member of Lymphoma Action’s closed Facebook support group, Lymphoma Action Support UK.

“My diagnosis was right at the beginning of the first COVID-19 lockdown, so meeting others in a face-to-face support group was out of the question,” said the 56-year-old.

“Thankfully, the meetings have been able to take place online so people affected by lymphoma can continue to support one another throughout this very difficult time for people living with blood cancer.”

“Anyone in the region who has been affected by lymphoma is welcome to join our online support meeting, including partners and relatives.” said Karen Bonell, regional development manager at Lymphoma Action.

“In addition to our regional online support meetings, we have extended our online support groups to provide support for family, friends and carers, and for young people affected by lymphoma.

“Our closed Facebook support group is also a great place for people affected by lymphoma to share information as well as thoughts and emotions about their diagnosis. If any reader would like to join the closed Facebook support group they should search for Lymphoma Action Support UK.”
