A COUPLE who transformed their cafe business to survive the pandemic are moving to a new location to open a furniture showroom.

During lockdown last year, the former cafe became into a takeaway and Bluesky At Home furniture shop — which has has relocated to Hawk Street in Carnforth.

The business was able to return to trading on Tuesday, May 4.

Owned and operated by Donna and Lee Wakefield, the shop offers a wide range of products including various types of furniture, home accessories, ornaments, and decorations.

Set up back in June, 2020, the couple ran into difficulties caused by the Covid lockdown, but were able adapt and change its angle of business.

Donna said: “We are so glad to be back in business and welcome anyone from the community to pop in for a visit.

“We welcome people to come back and browse our goods. It’s really enjoyable just getting back to interacting with real people again.

“The feedback we’ve had so far from the community has been really good and it’s been really encouraging.

“We set up in June 2020, and we found ourselves in a difficult position.

“We originally had a cafe with a large area for seating which could not be opened at the time due the restrictions under the lockdown.

“We couldn’t open it but we still had to pay rent on it which just wasn’t working for us. So, we decided to turn the kitchen into a takeaway, and transform the dining room into a furniture show room.

“The show room did really well so we thought we would pursue that as an angle of business.

“We used to be located in Middleton near Heysham, but we have moved to Carnforth and officially reopened on April 4. We are located opposite Booths. It used to be a car show room before we had it.

“We specialise in Tetrad sofas made in Preston. It’s a well-known make and has won lots of awards. We are the local stockists for them in the area. We do a lot of industrial items, quirky furniture, ornaments, and other things.

“Both myself and Lee are fully vaccinated and we were over the moon to see people coming back in again.

"We are so happy to be interacting with real people again. If anyone wants to come in, we’re very welcoming.”
