THE husband and daughter of an Ambleside woman who died earlier this year have raised more than £8,500 for the hospice that cared for her.
Kathryn Rigg died in March following a battle with cancer.
Vernon Rigg and Laura Swainson tasked themselves with walking 10 miles for 10 consecutive days to fundraise for St John's Hospice in memory of their loved one.
They in fact went significantly further than this, clocking up 144 miles over the period - added to the 150 miles they walked in training.
Among the walks tackled by the pair were routes in the Ambleside area, including over Loughrigg and Wansfell, and at Arnside - a favourite spot of Mrs Rigg's. They were joined by family members on different days.
“We had a mixture of weather over the 10 days, but two days in particular were very wet,” said Ms Swainson.
“Thank you again for all the donations for such an amazing cause close to our hearts.
"The treatment mum had from the hospice, and support for us as a family, was second to none.
“We have had the best 10 days doing the walks. It has been a big focus for us.”
The pair have raised more than £8,500 for the Lancaster-based hospice.
