TIME is running out for residents of Ulverston to have their say on the future vision for the town.

A plan based on a story and a theme, is being put together, that is hoped will get people visiting Ulverston in higher numbers.

The county council is working on the new action plan but still needs your opinions and views to be included.

Councillor Mark Wilson, who sits on both the county council and Ulverston town council, was involved in putting the presentation together. He said: “We are leading each other into a very exciting future, so do get involved with us in it.

“The Vision for Ulverston has brought together hundreds of comments and fantastic ideas from organisations already.

“The Vision is looking for a theme and a story that we can use to invite folk to visit live and work in Ulverston, as well as to invest in the possibilities for the future.

“The position of where we lie between the hills and coast, plus the creative work that goes on here in science, industry, and the arts form the basis of what we do successfully.

“Ulverston is a town that visitors love to come across, have happy times, and as many do return to live here and take part in everything that goes on and importantly add to it.”

“If you have not had an opportunity to comment, please get in touch with Ulverston town council or myself before June 30.”

The county council says a series of workshops, conversations, and an online survey has been undertaken to help draft a vision for Ulverston. Nearly 500 people have taken the time to participate in these events.

A statement from Cumbria County Council said: “Ulverston has an economic role that comes from being a high quality and growing place, that people choose to live and work in, boasting a dynamic tech economy in a vibrant cultural destination.”

The goals that the county council wants to achieve are:

• Attract new businesses to the town centre.

• Increase and retain the working-age population.

• Raise the standard of the physical environment in the town and town centre.

• Increase the number of people living in the town and town centre.

• Deliver new jobs and opportunities for economic and social participation.

• Increase the number of visitors who spend time and money in the town and town centre

This vision will now be used to develop a ‘place plan,’ to build local pride and confidence in the town.
