A PROPERTY boss has had his say after a first look at the apartments set to be created on the site of a disused Kendal pub was released.

Construction on 15 luxury apartments at the former Sawyers Arms building in Stricklandgate will commence later this year.

James Brecknock, director at OHC Property Group, which is behind the development, said ‘careful consideration’ had been taken during the design stage to ensure much of the existing building and courtyard was preserved.

11 of the apartments at the new Cavendish Court site will be one-bed and four will be two-bed.

Mr Brecknock described Kendal as a ‘special place’ with ‘picturesque countryside close by, great amenities and a growing and eclectic range of retailers, restaurants and bars’.

He said the development from OHC Property, which is based in York, was ‘proving popular’.

“I’m delighted that we have the permissions in place to commence construction later this year,” he said.

“Thanks go to South Lakeland District Council for their conscientious approach during the application process and our design team for their determination and vision.”

Construction on Cavendish Court is scheduled to be completed next year ‘in time for the autumn holiday-let season’.
