A SOUTH Lakeland school has achieved a record-high set of A-level results with an overall pass rate of 100 per cent.

Ninety per cent of pupils at Sedbergh School achieved A*/distinction* to C/merit.

Dan Harrison, headteacher, said: “We are absolutely delighted with the results from this year’s upper sixth.

“This has been a very testing time for this cohort, and they have shown incredible resilience all year.

“I am very proud of all of them and all that they have achieved today.”

Exam results this year were based on teacher-assessed grades, which have been produced over the summer term.

The grades were based on a series of mini-assessments in every subject, alongside any coursework or non-examined assessments.

There were a number of brilliant individual performances among this year’s results.

George Welch achieved four A* grades and will head to Durham University to study physics.

Three pupils gained three A* grades and one A grade - Max Jackson, who is applying to university next year, Peilin Chen, who is heading to University College London to read biomedical sciences, and Clemens Probst, who will read economics with finance at Edinburgh.

The school also enjoyed many BTEC successes.

Natasha Cookson, who won this year’s Wilson Run, which is an annual tradition at the school, achieved triple distinction* in sport.

Olivia Chatterley and India Haydon-Wood will both go to Durham - to read English literature and theology with religion, respectively.

More than 80 per cent of pupils at Sedbergh School have achieved the grades necessary to secure their firm choice university places.
