PUPILS across Cumbria will have a 'wheelie exciting' week thanks to Cumbria County Council.
The council have announced that this week is Bike to School Week for all children in the county.
Starting yesterday the week aims to encourage school children to find more environmentally friendly and healthy ways to get to their classrooms in a morning.
In a statement on their Twitter page, Cumbria County Council said: "This week we're celebrating cycling and scooting to school and the positive impact it has on children’s health and wellbeing as well as the environment."
The week will run until Friday, October 1.
Children from Early Years classes up to Key Stage three will also have to opportunity to build up greater confidence on their bikes as classes and education days are provided to them all week by organisations such as The Bikeability Trust.
As well as children, bike to school week encourages parents to get involved, jumping on their bikes to accompany their children to school and nursery.
The week is organised by The Bikeability Trust in Partnership with Sustrans, who say that the week is a great opportunity for pupils, parents and teachers all over the country to celebrate in the joy of cycling and scooting.
