A TARN in the Lake District has been put on the market.

School Knott Tarn, Windermere, is included in a lot of land for sale with a guide price of £700,000.

Lot one comprises 46.68 acres of meadow and grazing land with a guide price of £200,000, with estate agents Armistead Barnett saying the ring fenced block of land can be accessed ‘directly’ from the A591 and the track also provides access to the land for sale in lot two.

Of lot two, which extends over 181.95 acres and includes School Knott Tarn, the company said: “A block of pastureland situated in an elevated position above Windermere with fantastic panoramic views over Lake Windermere and the surrounding Lake District Fells.

“The land includes the well renowned outer lying Wainwright fells of School Knott and Grandsire in addition to the idyllic School Knott tarn which has until recent times been stocked and fished.

“The land benefits from three access points edged ‘purple’ and ’yellow’ along hardcore tracks. There are footpaths across the land leading to adjacent fields.”

Almost ten acres of lot two is designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI), being part of High Lickbarrow Mires and Pastures.

According to the estate agents the land is ideal for investors, agricultural purchasers or for those looking to own an ‘iconic’ piece of land in the Lake District National Park.

School Knott is the subject of a chapter in Wainwright's The Outlying Fells of Lakeland, and the summit provides stunning views over Windermere.

The land is being sold by informal tender and the date set for receiving buyer’s bids is noon on Tuesday, November 23.
