Cumbria has been battered by rain and floods as the Met Office today issued an amber warning on parts of the county.

Throughout the week yellow warnings have been in place and many residents have had their work and travel disrupted.

For many watching afar the images of destruction caused by the flooding have been shocking, as rivers break their banks and cars get stuck on flooded roads.

For those not in Cumbria, and residents wanting to check the situation, across the county they are more than 50 live webcams in place that will allow you to see scenes of flooding.

The webcams span town areas, rivers and railways, allowing you to see the full extent of the flooding.

They show the River Greta, River Derwent, the River Kent and many more.

To view these webcams visit the Visit Cumbria website here. You will be able to filter the webcams into what area you would like to see (i.e Rivers, Keswick, Railways).

Rain has been battering the county all week with up to 300mm expected to fall in parts of the region, which typically sees an average of 160mm in October.

“In a 24-hour period you could see a month’s worth of rain,” Met Office meteorologist Annie Shuttleworth said.

“The rainfall total is much higher than the average rainfall for this time of year, definitely, and in general, for any time of year it’s a lot of rainfall in a short period of time,” she told the PA news agency.
