“He was unbelievably selfless and filled our lives with so much love and laughter."
That was the message from the children of a Barrow man following his tragic death in a collision on the A590.
Tony Smith, known as 'Smudge', was described as 'an incredibly special man' and 'someone who would always see the positive and try to make others smile'.
“He was a devoted son, a wonderful father, a loving partner, a cheeky big brother, a protective grandfather, a beloved stepfather," said his children in a joint statement.
"He was also a kind and caring friend to so many.
“His passing has left our family with the biggest hole and we will love and miss him forever.”
Mr Smith, 52, was pronounced dead at the scene of the incident last Thursday.
The collision, which involved a Honda CR-V and a tractor, occurred on the westbound carriageway between junction 36 and Brettargh Holt roundabout. Officers were called at around 5.45pm.
Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident, including anyone with dashcam footage, to come forward.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Constable 1718 Turner.
