THE Westmorland Cricket League is looking to build on recruitment for new umpires ahead of the 2022 season.

A two day training course has been arranged to take place on January 23 and 30 at Carnforth Cricket Club.

After an exciting season since the return of the league after lockdown, organisers are hopeful that an equally successful season is right around the corner.

Tim Mansfield, Chairman of the South Lakeland and North Lancashire Association of Cricket Officials, said “We ran two courses in 2019 and it is a bit of a coup that we have managed to arrange for tutors Steve Beswick, who umpires county second team and national counties matches, and Rob Hales, the Chair of Lancashire ACO, to come to Carnforth again.

"We’ve had real success since the last course with new umpires joining the league panel.

"It’s been pleasing to see younger people coming forward, not always having played the game.”
