THIS week a new facility opened its doors to residents in Cumbria offering support for residents living in the area.

The 'LookOut' Community Hub has been opened on Shadygrove Road in Carlisle this week by the Mayor.

Carlisle City Council and the County Council have offered their support and financial backing to the new centre.

It will offer an amazing community resource for those who need just a little bit of help in Carlisle.

Councillor Pamela Birks said: "A community resource for everyone. A computer for those who don't have one to be able to contact landlords, councils and schools with a wi-fi facility.

"It is also a community library where you can check books in and out or request books that you need without having to go into Town. It gives residents the chance to catch up with friend and have a cup of tea and biscuit for a £1.00, in lovely bright surroundings.

"People are also invited to come to a group session of Knit and Knatter, or come see santa on December 20."

This is only the beginning for this fantastic, new, communal facility as we are told that there is plenty more to come after Christmas.

There will be something for everyone to enjoy so it is worth keeping an eye out to see if you would like to head down and support 'LookOut.'

The centre has already been visited by Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service who came down this week to enjoy a cup of tea and some cake.

They have also spoken to Councillor Christine Bowditch, who is involved with running the club, to discuss any future activities that they could plan together.

Most of the work done within the hub is done solely by volunteers who have worked hard to make sure that it became a reality.

Riverside Construction Group kindly installed the kitchen for free and have helped to organise the centre's plumbing and electrics.
