A CHEF will be cooking Christmas dinner for his elderly neighbours on Christmas day.

Josh Robinson, Head chef and manager of The New Inn, Kendal will be spreading festive cheer this Christmas by cooking dinner for residents of Websters Yard next door to the pub.

On why he offered to cook on Christmas Day, Josh said: "Some of the residents came down and said they were going to be on their own at Christmas and how they will be eating a microwave meal.

"It tugged on my heartstrings a little so i thought you know what, i am going to offer those guys Christmas dinner on Christmas day and put a smile on their face."

Josh will be cooking for five residents, the meal will be prepared in his home kitchen Christmas morning and delivered door to door.

This is the first time that Josh has done anything like this on this scale, he said: "It's nice to be nice and it's nice to do things for people. Thee guys are our neighbours we see them quite often and it's just about giving out bit back to them really."

Josh said that the residents were 'made up' after he offered to provide food for them on Christmas day, he said: "It's a good thing to offer, i think some people will be going to see their children or loved ones and i understand that they're the people that i hope are getting Christmas dinners.

"This is about the ones who don't have that to go to and are stuck on their own that have lost loved ones, it was about making sure that they have a hassle-free Christmas."

The New Inn reopened in November 2021 with a 'soft launch' due to the Covid situation and are hoping to launch the pub properly in the new year. He said: "We have such a big following, we were able to use that as our base to offer really good Christmas parties over the Christmas period. We have been using it as a Christmas venue but are hoping to launch fully next year."
