A company is set to surf the waves of Kendal’s high street this month with its first Cumbrian store.

Saltrock, a British surf wear and clothing business originating from Devon, aims to open its latest new store in the town at the end of this month.

And bosses hope to open a second store in Keswick before Easter this year as well.

The store will be situated in the former Virgin Money branch on Stricklandgate and has created ten jobs.

Work will commence on the unit on Monday with hopes that the store will be ready for customers on the last weekend of January.

“We’d done a lot of research through our online customers and we’ve seen that there is an appetite for the brand in Cumbria,” said Marie Clarke, head of brand and marketing at Saltrock.

“The Kendal shop is a beautiful space, right on the high street.

“This is a great step for the Saltrock Brand in Cumbria.

“The new Saltrock Kendal will offer surf inspired casualwear for men’s, women’s and kids’ and gear for locals and Lake District visitors alike.

“With proximity so close to the scenic views over the Lakes, Stricklandgate is an inspiring location for our new store and is an ideal opportunity to exhibit our brand story and product line to both local and international consumers.”

Ms Clarke said the team is ‘stoked’ to be coming to Kendal and promised plenty of activities in the run up to the store’s launch.

“We’re stoked to be coming to Kendal and really looking forward to being a part of the community,” she said.

“We will do some activities around the opening date.

“So watch this space there will be some opening events closer to the time.

“We are planning on opening the weekend January 29 and 30, dates are subject to change, especially with Covid at the moment.”

Saltrock was set up in 1988 by surfing brothers Angus and Ross Thomson, who set out on their venture using a homemade printing screen and selling their designs from the back of their Austin Allegro.
