A WEDDING day was made even more special after a couple tied the knot on the bride's late father's birthday.

Laura Campbell, 32, a contract officer, married James McClellan, 34, a construction foreman, in an 'amazing' Lake District ceremony.

The couple, who are both from Cleator moor first met on a night out - and have been together for the past 14 years.

The pair got engaged on Christmas Day a few years ago through a romantic proposal involving their daughter, Ava.

Mrs McClellan said: "We got engaged on Christmas Day a good few years ago.

"James asked me with my daughter wearing a t-shirt asking if I will marry daddy."

The McClellan's opted for a smaller wedding due to the ongoing Covid-19 restrictions which forced them to rearrange their big day three times.

"Covid did have a knock on effect on our wedding this was the third move," Mrs McClellan said.

"I was happy in the end with a smaller wedding as it has meant we are having a big wedding party separate as a night do."

The pair tied the knot at the Broadoaks Country House Hotel on February 11 in front of 40 guests.

"We had an amazing day it was perfect from start to finish," Mrs McClellan said.

"The highlights were the whole day but most importantly having our little girl Ava as our flower girl - she did an amazing job.

"The speeches were really funny and had everyone laughing."

Mrs McClellan said there was a 'massive character' missing from the wedding which was her dad, who sadly died 14 years ago.

"There was a massive character missing from my day and that was my father who passed away 14 year ago but he was included as much as we could in the day," she said.

"We had a memory stairway to heaven as part of our room decorating"

The newlyweds enjoyed a mini-moon to Windermere after saying 'I do' and are planning a family honeymoon to Greece for later in thee year.

Mrs McClellan said: "We have been on a mini-moon to the Lakes Spa in Bowness.

"It was amazing!

"We have a family honeymoon booked for later in the year to Greece too."

The couple used Lake District and Cumbria photographer, Harringtons Photographers, for their big day - which was the photographer's first wedding of 2022.

A spokesman for Harringtons said: "My first wedding of 2022 was off to a great start with this lovely couple married at the stunning Broadoaks Cumbria yesterday on Laura's late father's birthday, which made it even more special for them all.

"With 40 guests watching them become Mr & Mrs McClellan after being together for 14 years and their daughter Ava having the joy of being flower girl for the day.

"Thank you for allowing me to share in your day and it was lovely to see past couples I have captured over the years."
