PEOPLE turned out in their dozens to celebrate Kendal’s historic mayoralty.
Kendalians, community groups and mayors past and present turned out for the Mayor’s Parade on Sunday morning.
Uniformed youth groups from across the town joined the parade alongside town, district and county councillors, former Kendal mayors, and current mayors from all over Cumbria, marched down Highgate to Kendal Parish Church for the mayor’s annual Sunday service.
The procession, which included sea, army and air cadets, police cadets and Girl Brigade, was led by the Sea Cadets marching band.
The service was also attended by representatives from multi-faith groups, schools and local groups including Kendal Torchlight and the mayor’s charities for the year – CAP (Christians Against Poverty), and the Well Communities.
The service celebrated the mayor’s theme for the year - ‘Kendal Together’, as well as taking time to think about the current events in Ukraine.
The congregation was delighted by the choir and the beautiful soprano voice of Emily Robinson.
Reflecting on the day, mayor of Kendal, Councillor Douglas Rathbone said: "It was lovely to be able to be out and have a parade from the town hall to the parish church to celebrate our town and to showcase it to everyone. Guests from all over the county said how much they enjoyed the event.
“The mayor and the council are about the people of our town and it was great to be out there and also to cement that link with our parish church.
“It really was great to meet people again after so long.”
