An historic country house near Kirkby Lonsdale is opening its doors to visitors to host a fundraising event for Ukraine.

Whelprigg House is a Grade II listed venue between Barbon and Kirkby Lonsdale well-known for hosting wedding receptions, country pursuits and charity events

But it will be holding a 'Daffodil Day' for the Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal on Sunday April 3 from midday until 4pm.

Organiser Laura Fisher has asked for donations and volunteers to help to run various stalls, selling home produce, bric-a-brac, books and other items, as well as a raffle, tombola and games for all ages.

Laura said: "We have had lots of support from local businesses who are helping greatly with raffle prizes which is fantastic."

Whelprigg House owner Henry Bowring, who is lending his gardens for the day's activities, said: "We very much want to raise as much as possible for the Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal, who are making such huge efforts to support those suffering so appallingly.

"The gardens are not usually open so it is an opportunity for an enjoyable day out as well as a chance to help those in great distress.

"There will be a spectacular show of daffodils and narcissi, and there will be refreshments available."

Tickets are £4, including a tea or coffee, and there is no charge for children.
