PERMISSION is being sought for a glamping site near Kendal.

Three timber 'pods' would be set up with a parking space for each.

A toilet block, a waste-disposal area and bike storage would also be installed on the patch of land, which lies south of School House at Whinfell.

"The concept of luxury glamping is now gaining popularity throughout the UK, with standards and guests’ expectations on the rise," says the design and access statement submitted as part of the application from Glampitect.

"At the moment, there is little presence in the area offering this kind of luxury pod accommodation."

The facility would occupy around 1,800 sq metres of space and would feature a fourth parking spot for maintenance vehicles.

Guests would reach the pods from the car park via footpaths that would be illuminated by 'low-level LED lighting bollards' at night.

The design and access statement says that the accommodation would be rented out on a per-nightly basis and that 'party groups' would not be permitted use of the site.

"Patrons would likely be couples, family or friends, split into multiple pods," it says.

"The site would be operated as a typical (year-round) holiday let, much like a caravan site, but with much fewer guests, meaning less noise and disruption to neighbouring properties and road users etc.

"The site will also be marketed as a peaceful and relaxing retreat, which again should mean noise from guests is not a consideration."

The pods would be around 5m apart in distance and would each have a small area of decking to the front. Guests would have views of Whinfell Tarn.

"Shrubbery will be installed around the decks provided to aid guest privacy," says the design and access statement.

"Additional privacy will be provided by the existing hedges and shrubbery around the site boundaries.

"The design implemented for the site has purposely underdeveloped the site, utilising less than three per cent of the site area for the pods to provide both privacy for guests and to minimise the impact on neighbouring sites and properties."

A full planning application has been submitted to South Lakeland District Council for approval.
